Newport Darlow Wasps v Scunthorpe Scorpians

Waspland Whisperings
That Premier League win over Stoke last Saturday was very welcome but we must keep the momentum up as it is getting very interesting with all the bottom cluster of teams in the division winning at home last week. We are obviously very keen to keep away from the wooden spoon position and are aiming for the Jack Young Shield. Our position could have been even stronger if the match at Kings Lynn on July 14th had reached a conclusion. We were only two points down after the 11th heat when the match was abandoned because of the weather conditions. That was a good performance by any reckoning and we look forward to returning to Saddlebow Road as we consider that we have some unfinished business.
Meanwhile, with Anders Mellgren suffering a further injury blow in Sweden last week we have recalled the very promising Robin Aspegren whom you will recall impressed in a busy weekend at the beginning of the month against Edinburgh away, Berwick away and Edinburgh at home. He goes in at number five - a team spot that he rode in at Kings Lynn - and that is a sign of the confidence the team management have in him. The scouting system in Sweden has certainly served us well since we took over and I suspect that Robin will prove a real find.
This afternoon we entertain a Scunthorpe side who have certainly made an impact since the club elected to move up to the Premier League a few seasons ago. They invested in a strong top two in David Howe and Magnus Karlsson while ex Wasps Carl Wilkinson is having a good season. This going to be a tough one but we are looking solid with the re shuffle in the line up so an entertaining battle is in store. So, on with the racing!
