Len's Lines

Good evening everyone and welcome to Rye House.

In spite of the bitterly cold weather for our delayed opening meeting I'm happy to report a very healthy attendance figure with the only (to be expected) reduction being the number of senior citizens - indeed it was so cold I almost didn't come myself!  And after enjoying our new Doner Kebabs and plenty of fish and chips, everyone was treated to a great match against our old rivals Somerset.  I'm sure that everyone was delighted with our new boys and indeed all of the team.  Only Stevie Boxall struggled a little after breaking a brand new primary chain in his first race, when surely he would have picked up a point or two, after which he was unable to get away sharply on what turned out to be a very slick starting area until he had the grippier gate one in his last race when he put Jason King behind him.

With the final 7 point victory after suffering several mechanical problems (mostly to Edward and Chris) the visitors were I think, somewhat flattered.

Then on Wednesday the Rockets carried on the good work on a very damp Kings Lynn track to finally go down by a measly 2 points.  Once again points were lost with broken chains (twice!) to Chris when in leading positions.  We really deserved to win primarily because of an outstanding performance by Daniel, who took 7 rides for an amazing 19 points (plus 1 bonus) being defeated only once by Olly Allen in heat 4.  Brent seemed down on power and Stuart scared us with a sudden fall while 2nd in his first race which appeared to produce a dislocated finger in his left hand.

Although in severe pain he continued to perform with great credit, earning most of his points the hard way, from the back.  I'm praying that his hand is back to normal for this evening.

Now it's time to welcome my good friend Tim Stone and his Newport Wasps.  His team have taken on a quite powerful look about it and the outstanding Aussie Craig Watson, a super star at Premier level, will have much more back-up this term.   The return match at Newport is part of our busy Easter schedule as we arrive there with both the Rockets and the Raiders next Sunday (March 27th at 2.30pm).

I expect to see a big contingent of Rockets and Raiders fans to support our two teams in Wales, Easter, of course as I have mentioned is a particularly busy time for us.  Firstly on Saturday (March 26th) the Raiders host a strong League Select side chosen by my old friend Wimbledon boss Dingle Brown, a very tough debut for the Elmside boys and at 11AM on Easter Monday the powerful Isle of Wight side face the Rockets followed by the Raiders v Boston league match.

All of this action will give us a good indication of what the future holds for us this term - don't miss a minute of it, bring your pals to help you holler for our youngsters and I'll see you all on Saturday and Monday (remember 11am) as we gather to see the Rockets score.
